About the Campaign
Resilience and Protection Waqf
NAIT (The North American Islamic Trust)
On the wake of the terrorist attack on the Islamic Center of San Diego, NAIT is establishing The Resilience and Protection Waqf in support of victims of anti-Islam hate crimes and as a way to empower Muslim communities to build resilience and enhance security protections at places of worship.
Sustained funds raised through this endowment in perpetuity campaign will support emergency family assistance and humanitarian relief for affected individuals and families as well as fortify places of worship with much needed security measures.
At this point our goal is to establish a waqf to focus on being proactive in protecting our Islamic Centers, Schools, Organizations and our Communities, and being ready strategically to deal reactively as needed.
Legal & Tax Status
NAIT (North American Islamic Trust) is a U.S.-registered religious non-profit, tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by U.S. law.
The Waqf Instrument
An Irrevocable, Shariah-Compliant Perpetual Trust
Established as an irrevocable, Shariah-compliant perpetual trust. The principal capital (asl al-waqf) will remain untouched, and only the investment yield (thamarah) will fund operations. This model will help sustain this work for generations to come.
